Jeremy Clarkson is the host of a popular TV car show in Britain - Topgear. Somehow he didn’t really think the loss of 25 million child benefit records was a big deal. From his understanding of the banking system, he didn’t think people could take money out - strangely he only thought someone could put money in with the account number in hand. So being the prankster he is, he published his own account number.
Jeremy was very wrong.
"I opened my bank statement this morning to find out that someone has set up a direct debit which automatically takes £500 from my account," he said.
"The bank cannot find out who did this because of the Data Protection Act and they cannot stop it from happening again.
"I was wrong and I have been punished for my mistake."
As mom always says ‘prevention is the best cure’. :)
